Ghanaian busted with B4m of 'ice'

A Ghanaian man has been arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport on charges of smuggling crystal methamphetamine, or "ice", with a street value of four million baht.

Thut Adjartey Glover, 50, was taken to a news conference at the airport's customs office on Sunday after an X-ray of his luggage discovered 1,200 grammes of crystal meth concealed in a hidden compartment on Saturday night.

He was arrested after disembarking from Emirates flight EK372 from Dubai at 7.40pm. The substance was found in a plastic envelope doubled wrapped in adhesive tape and carbon paper.

Mr Glover said he was a goods vendor and had a Thai wife in Bangkok. He allegedly confessed that a Nigerian man named Emaka hired him for 5,000 US dollars (about 160,000 baht) to carry a suitcase from Accra, Ghana’s capital city, and deliver it to a compatriot in Malaysia through Dubai and Bangkok. He claimed he did not know the suitcase contained the ice drug.
