A Facebook user, Prasert Boonthongkul, posted the image under the title “What she wash…” and said the incident occurred at a petrol station in front of Muang district office in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The post was widely share and received many of negative comments from people who viewed such behaviour as inappropriate and were worried about cleanliness and food safety for customers, according to Thai media.
Café Amazon’s director later issued an announcement apologising to customers and informing them of the steps that were taken.
Suchart Ramad, manager of Cafe Amazon, said the outlet was operated by its franchisee who had admitted the incident occurred.
Cafe Amazon then agreed with the owner that the cafe should shut down for seven days from Tuesday to clean the shop and install a new sink at the back of the outlet.
He said the cofee chain would increase inspections to ensure that all outlets were managed under the same standards.
Mr Prasert later posted on his page a thank you to the management of the cafe for its response.
