Police station growing food, raising fish

UBON RATCHATHANI - Police in Sawang Wirawong district are growing rice and vegetables and raising fish on land inside the station compound in line with the Sufficiency Economy philosophy developed by His Majesty the King.

Pol Col Pinyo Sutthisarn, superintendent of Sawang Wirawong police station, said his station had a total of 28 rai (11 acres) of land and his subordinates decided to use four rai of unused land in front of the station for organic farming.

He said all 56 officers at the station had planted rice, sticky rice and vegetables and raise fish. The produce will be used for cooking inside the station and donated to people living nearby to promote unity and establish ties in the community.

The 'police farming' campaign was inspired by His Majesty the King's Sufficiency Economy philosophy, he added.
