The pile-up occurred near an intersection on Ban Buang-Klaeng Road in the afternoon shortly after police were called to an accident involving a Toyota Yaris and Nissan Frontier pickup truck. The collision caused no injuries.
Pol Capt Panthiti Sirimoon, a duty officer at Klaeng police station, said he was examining the scene while his colleagues were directing long queues of traffic left by the two-vehicle crash and signalling approaching drivers travelling at high speed to slow down.
But a six-wheel truck carrying fruit was going too fast and the driver, identified later as Yuan Tasen, 39, failed to stop. His vehicle rammed into two pickup trucks. The impact caused a chain-reaction that involved seven more vehicles including a police patrol pickup.
The three injured - a man and two women - were sent to Klaeng Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver was charged with reckless driving causing injury and damage to state and private assets, Pol Capt Panthiti said.
