Warrants for 7 in M79 attacks

The Bangkok South Criminal Court on Monday approved warrants for the arrest of seven suspects in connection with the M79 attack on People's Democratic Reform Committee protesters in February.

The attack in front of the Big C department store on Ratchadamri road Feb 23 caused a number of deaths and injuries.

Deputy police chief Somyos Phumphanmuang said the court approved the arrest warrants as requested by the police investigating the case after acquiring enough evidence.

He identified the seven as Taweechai Wichakham, 39, Sathorn Phiphuannok, 49, Suksan Lomwong, 32, Somsri Marit, 40, Chatchawal Prabbamrung, 45, Kannikar Wongtua, 38, and Wichian Sukpirom, 33.

The seven are to be charged with premeditated murder, illegally posessing weapons and ammunition, and possession and carriage of firearms in public without permission.

Pol Gen Somyos said the warrants were sought after the investigators obtained information from Narongsak Plai-aram, who had been arrested earlier for M79 attacks on PDRC protesters on several occasions, including one on Sawankhalok road March 29.
