Pol Maj Gen Noraboon Naenna, acting commander of the Crime Suppression Division, told a press conference on Thursday that the six were arrested in Rayong province last Wednesday for kidnapping Prathan Khammeesat, the 70-year-old building contractor, on July 10.
Arrested were Anucha Deesamoh, 43, Padungkiat Mongkolcharoen, 35, Suwit Singkan, 32, Thanu Chuchian, 33, Supa Pannil, 26, and Anlop Charoentham, 36. Police seized from the gang a 9mm pistol, a chain and handcuffs, as well as a pickup truck, amulets, necklace, mobile phone and camera belonging to the victim.
Pol Maj Gen Noraboon said Mr Anucha planned the abduction to avenge an alleged fraud by Mr Prathan's daughter who was accused of tricking Mr Anucha's company out of about 30 million baht. The woman was a clerk at the company and the alleged fraud is being tried in court.
Mr Anucha's gang kidnapped Mr Prathan after he left a construction site in Phatthana Nikhom district, Lop Buri province. The gang later detained Mr Prathan in Chon Buri and then Rayong province.
Mr Anucha said he had tried in vain to get Mr Prathan's daughter to return the 30 million baht as his company would be shut down in two months without the money. The company produces electrical wire in Rat Burana district of Bangkok.
He said the abduction was aimed at forcing the daughter to return the money.
Mr Prathan said he had not known his daughter was involved in a fraud until she received a court notice. He said his daughter had returned part of the money.
He said during the abduction, the gang hit him around the head, gave him electric shocks and blindfolded, handcuffed and chained him.
