Soldiers stop red shirts' ceremony

The military on Saturday asked a group of red-shirt people to scrap their merit-making ceremony for Thaksin Shinawatra's birthday at the Imperial World Ladprao shopping centre in Bangkok.

Singthong Buachum, a Pheu Thai Party member, said mall employees who supported the red-shirt movement had organised the birthday ceremony for the former prime minister on Saturday. They invited monks to the merit-making ceremony and put up photos of Thaksin and his sister and former PM Yingluck Shinawatra.

At 1.30pm, a group of soldiers came and asked them to take down the photos and scrap the ceremony.

Ms Yingluck this week travelled to visit her brother in France, where they were believed to be planning a celebration for his 65th birthday on Saturday.
