Volleyball tickets sell out in an hour

Almost 20,000 tickets for the FIVB World Grand Prix volleyball matches in Bangkok were sold out within one hour on their launch date.

ThaiTicketMajor, the distributor, reported that all 18,750 tickets at all prices — 100, 200 and 300 baht — for the three competition days were sold out in one hour on the first day on July 18, according to the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

The Pool G encounters of the premier women’s volleyball tournament are due to take place at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mak in Bangkok from Aug 15-17. Brazil and the United States, the world’s top two teams, are expected to thrill the audience with their exceptional performances, while hosts Thailand and Dominican Republic will also join the fray.

Volleyball has become a popular sport among Thais in recent years following the impressive performances by the national women's team in several competitions.

Last year, thousands of fans queued for more than one kilometre from 6am to buy tickets for the finals of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima.
