Two arrested in rape cases

A bus driver who allegedly attempted to rape a university student and a hospital employee who was suspected of raping a 70-year-old patient were arrested late on Saturday.

Satawat Kaewsukkho, the 21-year-old bus driver, was arrested in Phetchabun province at about 6.30pm. He was accused of trying to rape a 20-year-old student who was the last passenger on his songthaew bus in Lat Krabang district of Bangkok at about 9pm on July 18.

The woman reportedly jumped off the bus and was injured. When the driver tried to force her to get on his bus again, two men on a motorcycle passed by and managed to help the student.

The Min Buri court earlier issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr Satawat.

In the other case, Chatcharin Kraiwatanapong, a 26-year-old outsourced X-ray technician at Thung Song Hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat, was arrested at his house in the southern province, allegedly for raping a 70-year-old patient in an X-ray room at the hospital on July 12.

The suspect was an employee of a company that was contracted to handle X-ray services for the hospital.

Police will hold news conferences on the arrests on Sunday.
