Soldiers clear park encroaching trees

KANCHANABURI — Authorities on Sunday cleared three rubber plantations covering 15 rai of forest land that encroached on Khao Laem National Park.

Twenty park officials and soldiers from the Surasee Task Force raided the first two encroached plots covering 13 rai in tambon Pilok of Thong Pha Phum district where they dismantled illegal structures and uprooted 500 rubber trees.

The team later cleared another plantation of 125 rubber trees in tambon Huay Kayeng. All the rubber trees were about three years old.

Park chief Viroj Rojjanajinda said the encroachers had been ordered to demolish their facilities and plantations after a court found them guilty of forest land encroachment in 2012 but they ignored the order. The offenders would be responsible for demolition expenses, he said.
