Man deported for Buddha tattoo

YANGON – A Canadian tourist has been deported from Myanmar because of a pictures of the Lord Buddha tattooed on his leg, local media reported Monday.

The authorities deported the man to Thailand on Sunday, The Voice newspaper reported.

"We told him that the tattoos may cause unnecessary trouble," an official from the Immigration Department said.

A photo posted on the internet alerted Myanmar authorities to the tattoos.

Myanmar is not the only Buddhist country to deport westerners for Buddha tattoo. In April, British tourist Naomi Coleman was arrested at Sri Lanka's main international airport and later deported for having her shoulder covered in a Buddha tattoo.
