Army brass salutes Prawit's birthday

Members of the National Council for Peace and Order who staged the May 22 coup and other high-ranking army officers offered birthday wishes to former defence minister Prawit Wongsuwon at his Bangkok home Friday.

NCPO and army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha led the officers to the residence in the 1st Infantry Regiment on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road to extend their best wishes ahead of Gen Prawit's 69th birthday Aug 11.

Gen Prayuth was accompanied by senior members of the NCPO, military members of the National Legislative Assembly and former senior officers expected to compose the next cabinet, including former army chief Gen Anupong Paochinda and former deputy army chief Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan.

In the well-wishing ceremony, Gen Prayuth said Gen Prawit was a good example for junior officers to follow, having devoted himself to the interests of the public, the nation, the royal institution and religion. He also emphasised the decades long of close ties between army top brass and Gen Prawit.

Gen Prawit thanked members of the NCPO for their actions to since assuming power, saying they helped restore national peace and move forward national progress.
