Hua Mak police were alerted to the death at a home in the Kittiniwes housing estate in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 68 at about 3am, where they found a man identified later as Wichakorn Wongsasana, a 56-year-old retired teacher, waiting for them with the body of his mother, Kanlayanee, nearby.
Police said Mr Wichakorn stabbed and hit Kanlayanee in the head several times and called the 191 police emergency hotline to report his mother’s death, according to a Thai Rath Online report.
Mr Wichakorn was in shock when the police arrived.
The police said the retired teacher confessed to killing his mother but gave confusing details about the crime. He said his mother was still alive when he called 191.
Neighbours told the officers that Mr Wichakorn had been mentally ill for many years and was living with his mother with no other family members. He allegedly assaulted his mother regularly. They said they heard Kanlayanee cry for help almost every day.
Kanlayanee had kidney disease and her neighbours helped take her to the hospital for treatment three times a week, the police said.
