A trial run of the service began in zone 2 on the third floor of the airport's parking building on Thursday. The space can accommodate up to 450 cars. Eligible users are women coming alone or accompanied by a child under 12.
"We painted all the columns pink in the area and added lighting in dark spots. Security staff are also instructed to constantly monitor the zone through closed-circuit cameras for the safety of women," said Group Capt Samai Chantorn, deputy general manager of operations for Suvarnabhumi.
All six airports under the supervision of Airports of Thailand Plc were earlier instructed to set aside parking space for women. In addition to Suvarnabhumi, they are Don Mueang (Bangkok), Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang (Chiang Rai), Phuket and Hat Yai (Songkhla) international airports.
