Southern peace talks to resume

Peace talks on the Deep South unrest between the Thai government and insurgents to be brokered by Malaysia will resume this month, according to the National Security Council chief.

Secretary-general Thawil Pliensri said he had discussed the possibility with Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, deputy army chief and chairman of a committee pushing for solutions to the southern violence.

Mr Thawil said he had coordinated efforts with Kuala Lumpur for the talks to be resumed with all groups this month, but declined to give details on the place and date.
