Fire guts market, 11 homes in South

Fire ripped through a market neighbourhood in Narathiwat province early Tuesday, destroying nearly a dozen homes but causing no injuries.

The blazed gutted an old market near the Rueso train station on Rueso Sanongkit Road in Rueso Ork sub-district shortly after 2am. Then fire engines were deployed with firefighters taking about three hours to quell the flames.

Flames destroyed food stalls and shops in the market and 11 adjacent wooden houses with either one or two floors.

Narathiwat governor Nathapong Sirichana and Lt Col Ekaphol Leknork, the ad hoc unit commander of Narathiwat, inspected the scene and ordered subordinates to protect the belongings of evacuees.

Authorities assumed that a short circuit at a food stall in the market started the fire. It happened when no one was at the market.
