Army ready for Prayuth ceremony

A ceremony for Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, the army chief and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chairman, to receive a royal command formally appointing him as prime minister will be held on Monday at the army headquarters.

Preparations have been made for the investiture ceremony to be held at Reception Room 221 of Building No 2 of the Army Headquarters, army sources said on Sunday.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10.39am when the royal command will be brought to the reception room and read out by the parliament secretary-general.

Members of the news media will not be allowed inside to cover the ceremony. However, the ceremony will be broadcast live by the Television Pool of Thailand.

Gen Prayuth will not deliver a speech after the ceremony, according to reports.

Gen Prayuth will be the 29th prime minister after the royal endorsement.

He is expected to forward a list of cabinet members to His Majesty the King for endorsement shortly after the ceremony on Monday, an army  source said.

Gen Prayuth will not immediately move to work at Government House, instead temporarily using the army head office as his administration office until a scheduled move into the prime minister's office can be arranged, the source added.
