Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha assigned Gen Tanasak to visit meet Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Gen Tanasak, the National Council for Peace and Order deputy chief overseeing security affairs, is expected to discuss the temple on the border adjacent to Thailand's Si Sa Ket province.
Sources said Tuesday that Gen Prayuth and Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Banh decided during the latter's visit to Thailand earlier this month that Gen Tanasak would visit.
Earlier Gen Prayuth said good ties with neighbouring countries were essential, as Thailand does a high-volume of cross-border trade with Cambodia.
Development of special economic zones, roads, customs facilities and crossings along the border was thus under way to secure and facilitate border trade, he earlier said.
