39 environment directors transferred

Thirty-nine senior officials at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have been transferred it was reported on Wednesday, affecting positions at Level 9 held by people appointed during the tenure of the past Yingluck Shinawatra government.

The transfer order signed by permanent secretary Mingquan Wichayarangsaridh involved directors of natural resources and environment offices, protected area regional offices and forest resource management offices.

The provincial offices are under the jurisdiction of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and the Royal Forest Department and oversee protected areas and national parks nationwide.

It is the biggest single shake up of senior officials at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment since the May 22 coup by the National Council for Peace and Order.

Many of the transferred officials were alleged to have close connections to Vichet Kasemthongsri, former minister of natural resources and environment, red-shirt leaders Nattawut Saikua and Jatuporn Prompan, and Pheu Thai Party key figure Yongyuth Tiyapairat - all supporters of  the past Yingluck government.
