Narongchai resigns from NLA

Narongchai Akrasanee, a former commerce minister, has resigned from the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), boosting speculation he is likely to be selected a minister in the Prayuth Chan-Ocha cabinet.

Mr Narongchai told reporters on Wednesday he formally tendered his resignation to the Office of the Senate Secretariat during the afternoon, claiming he did not have much time and had a lot of work to do.

He brushed aside reports that he would likely take a ministerial post in charge of economic affairs and declined further comment on the issue when asked what his decision would be if he is formally asked to join the cabinet.

The interim charter prohibits a cabinet member from sitting in the NLA.

Mr Narongchai was a deputy prime minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra government and is now an economic adviser to the NCPO.
