Chatuchak fire guts 16 stalls

A fire broke out at Chatuchak Plaza shopping centre on Kamphaeng Phet 2 road early Monday, razing 16 shopping stalls, reports said.

The fire began about 2.25am between soi 1 and soi 2 in zone C, which is designated for stalls selling goods such as home furniture, lanterns, silk cloth, leatherware, picture frames, mats and pillows. Guards at the shopping centre first spotted the fire destroying the roof before spreading to stalls underneath it.  Several fire engines rushed to fight the fire, which was brough under control in 30 minutes after destroying 16 stalls Nos C150-C165. It was believed the fire started in stall No C156 or 157.  The cause of the fire was being investigated. The damage was initially estimated at 5 million baht.
