Blowing his own trumpet

Mahidol University's College of Music presents "Virtuosity and Extreme Trumpet!", a Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra concert featuring principal guest conductor Claude Villaret and guest soloist Rex Richardson at its Music Auditorium on March 2 at 7pm and March 3 at 4pm.

One of the world's most engaging trumpet soloists, Rex Richardson will join the TPO to perform a work written specifically for him by American composer James Stephenson in a piece called Rextreme Concerto.

The musical fireworks will continue as TPO under the baton of Villaret performs Stravinsky's Firebird, and concludes with Kabalevsky's Overture Colas Breugnon.

Hailed as an artiste with an exceptional talent who has made a name for himself as one of the world's finest, most engaging and astonishingly versatile trumpeters, Yamaha Performing Artist Rex Richardson was named the 2008 Brass Herald Personality of the Year.

A veteran of the acclaimed chamber ensemble Rhythm & Brass, jazz legend Joe Henderson's Quintet and Sextet, William Russo's Chicago Jazz Ensemble and the Brass Band of Battle Creek, Richardson stays busy as a headline artist at international brass and jazz festivals and as a soloist with orchestras, concert bands, brass bands and jazz ensembles on five continents.
