Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will represent His Majesty the King on Tuesday to confer the 2016 Prince Mahidol Award at the Chakri Throne Hall in the Grand Palace to two laureates in the fields of medicine and public health.

The pair are Sir Gregory Paul Winter of the United Kingdom, who won in the field of medicine for his development of humanised therapeutic antibody technology, and Vladimir Hachinski of Canada, in the field of public health for his contributions in the areas of vascular cognitive impairment, stroke, and brain-heart interactions, according to the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation.

Sir Gregory, regarded by many as one of the world's leading scientists, was a pioneer in the field of antibody engineering and modification technology. He invented techniques to humanise antibodies for therapeutic uses, which later led to the creation of cutting-edge therapeutic drugs. The drugs are now widely used in treating diseases.
