The niece of an army private beaten to death at the Narathiwat Ratchanakarin army camp in 2011 during a training exercise has asked the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) for help in a defamation case brought against her by an army officer.

Narissarawan Kaewnopparat, niece of Pvt Wichian Puaksom, submitted a fresh petition Thursday with the OAG asking for fair treatment. She was accompanied by lawyer Natthasiri Berkman from the Cross-Cultural Foundation and an Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights official.

Phanchot Boonsiri, who heads the investigation section of the OAG, received the complaint from Ms Narisarawan.

Ms Narissarawan, a civil servant at the Department of Children and Youth at the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, is charged with criminal defamation and violating the Computer Crime Act for making allegations about her uncle's death on her Facebook page.

The case was brought against her by Maj Phuri Perksophon in November, 2015. Maj Phuri, who was a captain at the time, was one of Pvt Wichian's commanders.

Mr Phanchot said Ms Narisarawan's letter would be processed by a screening panel before being submitted to the attorney-general.
