WATFORD: A Miguel Britos header deep into injury time allowed Watford to salvage a 3-3 draw against Liverpool in their first match of the English Premier League season on Saturday.

The heroics by Britos came after Liverpool had come back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to lead 3-2 thanks to a three-minute blitz in the second half, when new signing Mohamed Salah made an impact.

Former Chelsea winger Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in the off-season, won a penalty converted by Roberto Firmino in the 54th minute and then bundled in the Brazilian's lofted pass from close range.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane scored a classy equaliser to cancel out striker Stefano Okaka's early header for Watford, but midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure put the hosts up 2-1 in the first half after sloppy defending by Liverpool.

The visitors' 3-2 lead held up until the fourth minute of what turned out to be eight minutes of extra time, when an unmarked Britos nodded home a corner to dash Liverpool's hopes of becoming the second winners of the young season.

The 2017-18 campaign officially began when Arsenal downed Leicester City 4-3 in the first-ever Friday night season opener.
