The Japanese said the Thai challenger would not last more than seven rounds, prompting Palangpon to hit back.

"You can say anything you like but whether you can do it is another matter," Palangpon said.

"I am confident that I will win the 108-pound title."

Palangpon, of Buri Ram, said he had the best preparation of his career.

"I am fully fit physically and mentally," he said.

"I have watched tapes of his fights. He is a good boxer and has a defensive mindset. I am the underdog but I think I have a high chance of winning."

Tanaka weighed in at 107.8 pounds yesterday and Palangpon 107.5 pounds.

Unbeaten Palangpon, 32, has won all his 14 fights with only one knockout.

The Japanese champion is 10 years younger than the Thai but has less boxing experience.

Although he has an unblemished record, he has fought professionally nine times.
