Al-Qaeda calls for more 'revenge'

DUBAI : Al-Qaeda said a deadly attack on US diplomats in Libya was in revenge for the killing of its number two, monitors reported Saturday, as Washington deployed forces to cope with global violence over a film mocking Islam.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) also called for more violence against US diplomatic missions in the Middle East and Africa, and urged Muslims living in the West to attack American interests, SITE Intelligence Group said.Symbols of US influence in cities across the Muslim world have come under siege - embassies and schools as well as fast food chains - as protesters vent their fury at the American-made film "Innocence of Muslims."As US investigators questioned the man allegedly behind the low-budget movie before releasing him, the top Sunni Muslim authority called for a global ban on all forms of attacks on Islam and other religions. In the worst violence, the US ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, and three other Americans were killed on Tuesday when suspected Islamic militants fired rocket-propelled grenades at the US consulate in Benghazi.AQAP, Al-Qaeda's Yemeni offshoot, did not claim direct responsibility for the attack on the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city. But it said the killing of Al-Qaeda deputy leader Sheikh Abu Yahya al-Libi in a drone strike in June "increased the enthusiasm and determination of the sons of (Libyan independence hero) Omar al-Mukhtar to take revenge upon those who attack our Prophet," according to SITE."May the expulsion of embassies and consulates lead to the liberation of Arab lands from the American hegemony and arrogance," it said in another statement, adding that it was a "duty" for Muslims on Western soil to attack US interests. In other violence, heavily armed Taliban stormed a strongly fortified air base in Afghanistan where Britain's Prince Harry is deployed, killing two US Marines in an assault the militia said was to avenge the American-made film. The attack on Camp Bastion in Helmand province, which continued until Saturday morning, came after at least 11 protesters died on Friday as police battled to defend US missions from mobs in Egypt, Lebanon, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen.US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said Washington was configuring its forces to be able to cope with widespread violence following its deployment of counter-terrorism Marine units to Libya and Yemen and its stationing of two destroyers off the North African coast."We have to be prepared in the event that these demonstrations get out of control," Panetta told Foreign Policy magazine. He did not elaborate, but the magazine said the Pentagon was discussing, but had not yet decided, whether to send a third platoon of 50 specially trained Marines to protect the Khartoum embassy.Guards on the roof of the embassy fired warning shots on Friday as the compound was breached by protesters waving Islamic banners, after earlier ransacking parts of the British and German missions in the Sudanese capital. But Sudan's foreign minister, Ali Karti, flatly rejected a US request to send special forces to protect the embassy, the official SUNA news agency said, quoting his office. In the past week, the US embassy compounds have also been breached in Egypt and Yemen, whose parliament rejected the presence of US Marines, although the government has already accepted them.Panetta said on Friday it was still too early to say exactly what happened in Benghazi. The head of Libya's national assembly, Mohammed al-Megaryef, said foreign elements may have been involved in the planned and "meticulously executed" attack, which came on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.hl2:-- Protests spread across continents --In Friday night's attack in Afghanistan, the assailants penetrated the air base and damaged aircraft.Military spokesman Major Adam Wojack said 18 insurgents were killed -- including a suicide bomber. Prince Harry was never in danger, officials confirmed.A Taliban spokesman said the attack was to avenge the anti-Islam movie."Last night, a number of mujahedeen fighters have carried out suicide attacks on Camp Bastion of Helmand in revenge for the insulting movie by the Americans," spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi told AFP by telephone.Police in Sydney fired pepper spray to contain protesters trying to enter the building housing the US consulate, as hundreds also demonstrated in Israel, Indonesia and the Maldives. In Somalia, the Qaeda-linked Shebab militia, which controls large swathes of the country, called on Muslims to launch revenge attacks on Western targets.President Barack Obama urged Americans not to be disheartened by images of anti-US violence, expressing confidence the ideals of freedom America stands for would ultimately prevail. In Los Angeles, US federal authorities questioned Nakoula Besseley Nakoula, the alleged brains behind the anti-Islam film, but quickly released him.Investigators were seeking to establish if he broke the terms of his probation over a bank fraud conspiracy, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Don Walker told AFP.In Cairo, the grand imam of Al-Azhar, the highest seat of Sunni Muslim learning, called for an international resolution banning all forms of attacks on Islam and other religions, in a letter to UN chief Ban Ki-moon.The resolution should "criminalise attacks on Islamic symbols and on those of other religions, after the violence against those who provoked challenges to world peace and international security," Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb said.

Pull all the money the western world sends to these countries and see what happens. eg Lybia, Egypt, Afganistan,Pakistan, etc etc.

I think they've made their point, now go home and live in peace.

Islam is not a tolerant religion; far from it. Their basic idea is 'You believe as we do or you are an infidel and therefore worthless and can be slaughtered at any opportunity'. Time people stopped being so PC. They are determined to dominate the world by whatever means.
Discussion 4 : 16/09/2012 at 09:21 PM
Islam is hell bent on dominating the world; it is clearly stated in the Koran that it is their duty to. So far and somehow they get away with portraying Islam as a religion of peace : complete nonsense.

The violence and mob behaviour only reinforces what many free-thinking westerners already believe.

Those people come to Western countries enjoy the freedom of expression, driving Western cars and so on and on top taking advantage of the social system of our countries many living on welfare paid by Western people. If they don’t like our way of life why they don’t go back to the countries they are coming from and live under their laws while we live under our laws.

l dont understand why iresponsible westerner mock other faith its wrong, but how often have the muslim movement have also done the same, these protesters have over reacted to the situation,no doubt edged on by the islamic terrorist branch, the lesson to learn is for the west not to get involved with these countries or to be asked.as iraq is a prime example, that nothing will change their ways, yet many of our brave soldiers have loss their lives for no acomplishment, let them get on with it and hopefully the arabian league grow some balls and deal with their problems

These fanatics are like children with AK-47s & RPGs, except that those are the real things!

The only reason that the West has to put up with these brainwashed intolerant and cowardly people and their violent behaviour is because the West needs their oil. But after alternative energies replace their oil the muslim nations that have fostered hate towards the Western infidel will be made to suffer. And that can't happen quick enough to suit the non-muslim world.

A Muslin named Taji Mustafa,a UK HUT ( Hizb ut Tahrir ) leader, is in Australia today giving a series of speeches on "Islam". His talks were promoted with a YouTube video calling for the "end of western civilization" and the rise of an Islamic caliphate governed by Sharia law. Sound familiar. Ḥizb at-Taḥrīr is a Sunni international political organization commonly associated with the goal of all Muslim countries in unifying as an Islamic state or caliphate ruled by Islamic law and with a caliph head of state elected by Muslims. A spokesman for HUT, Uthman Badar, said it was wrong to suggest their organization condoned violence. Note: no mosques or Islamic embassies were attacked a result of the outrageous You Tube video calling for the end of Western civilization. Says something - doesn't it.

These people want everyone to respect their religion. First they have to start acting like civilised persons and they sure don't show that. Where is their respect when they blow up Thousand year old statues and not one person of their faith thought it was wrong. Until they can show otherwise this is a religion of hate – nuff said.

Will never apologize especially after 9/11 indeed.

It’s time for Americans and their allies to stop apologising to Muslims for anything claimed by Muslims to offend Islam. Freedom of speech is a hallmark of the West that must be defended. More to the point it is time for Muslims to apologise to the West for the actions of Al-Qaeda and the rampaging violent out-of-control mobs bent on revenge and destruction of anything western. The ill-educated people who participate in mob rule are doing everything in their power to demonstrate Islam is so intolerant that their beliefs and reaction to criticism can only be expressed through extreme violence. And Muslim leaders do virtually nothing to dispel this impression.

This is not about the video on YouTube. Obama would like you to believe that, though.
Discussion 15 : 16/09/2012 at 09:52 AM
Stop! this Muslim propaganda.
Discussion 16 : 16/09/2012 at 09:50 AM
Such folks are so quickly offended, so quick to anger, so quick to revenge. Are those the pillars of their religion? It looks more like a group which is so insecure with its beliefs, that the smallest slight offends them massively.
Discussion 17 : 16/09/2012 at 09:02 AM
Al-Qaeda said a deadly attack on US diplomats in Libya was in revenge for the killing of its number two… What a truly pathetic example of blatant ambulance-chasing from a morally bankrupt ‘organization’. What’s the matter? Have you run out of barrels to scrape?
Discussion 18 : 16/09/2012 at 08:38 AM
These events clearly demonstrate the childish irrational attitude of many Islamic believers, yet our western leaders still think they can reason with such people as if they were intelligent, rational beings.
Discussion 19 : 16/09/2012 at 07:47 AM
Yes, by all means, kill as many people as you can. Don't mind if a lot of your own people are killed as a result of your indiscriminate, barbarism. I'm sure your prophets are so proud of your cowardly acts on their behalf. So much of the world is populated by ignorant, superstitious, empty vessels, just waiting for some opportunistic charlatans to fill them with self righteous hateful puppets. When you think of it, these people are not that far removed from the caves of their ancestors. And where are the educated, clear thinking modern clerics and people of their faith to say what they did is wrong and that this was not condoned by the US government? They are equally afraid of their own kind and would rather whisper apologies.
