Heavy rain, flooding in Bangkok
Many areas of Bangkok were heavily flooded following heavy rain on Tuesday, as Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said the giant tunnel does work and floating debris does not obstruct the draining process.

Bangkok is sinking slowly every year, and the lower it goes, the harder it is to drain it. The only long-term solution is to move the capital to higher ground, like Nakhon Ratchasima, which will be more cost-effective, instead of trying to fight this losing battle.

My street had the gutters cleaned months ago .Flooding is areas which always flood after prolonged rain fall .They flood as some overrun ditch somewhere overflows and then drain after an hour .Nothing new here .Nice try at getting the red vote into the governor office but no cigar .

Stopping the love affair with plastic bags would improve our drainage greatly .I wonder if people would be able to live with out them for the 5 seconds they use each one before throwing it in the gutter .

Again I ask what apart from normal maintenance have they done to even help to elevate the problem of flooding. The answer must be nothing, the week before last they announced Bangkok was OK last week they came up with a figure that it can cope with 60 mm of rain per day [rather a precise figure don't you think] now it looks as if all that was white lies to try and defend an obvious pending disaster.I can not swear but I could think of some chaise words to describe the people in charge and there attempts at flood management.

Bangkokians are doing themselves no favors when using drains, khlongs and other waterways as garbage dumps. Somebody please educate these people, use TV, radio whatever necessary.

the ammount of flooding up north obviously will work down river to bangkok, but surely they have to build more dams to control the flow and perhaps make energy from them, hugh investment is needed, obviously what has been done isnt enough, it will happen every rainy season as it has done

Not only did it flood on Tuesday, but it flooded this afternoon too! Din Daeng looked like a canal, took me an hour to get through that area. One through there, the roads the rest of the way home were fine.

To a cynic like me, it look as if the Bangkok Governor is attempting to put on a brave face to cover up the fact that the BMA is not fit for purpose re the problem of flood prevention in Bangkok.

I tend to agree with Chuvit on this issue. So, Gov. Sukhumband: could you please let us Bangkok residents know what exactly is happening? Is the 'waste-screening' equipment up and running or is it really broken? What does
it take to fix or how much does it cost to replace the equipment? This should be your priority concern. If the giant drainage tunnel is actually working, then we won't see up to 80 cm of flood waters on Bangkok streets. We have experienced similar amounts of rain water in the past.
