Chalerm calls for calm in UDD reshuffle row

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung will step in to clear the air with the red-shirt United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) over the cabinet reshuffle row in which one of its leading lights missed out on a seat. Still, he said he was not confident the red shirts would listen.

"I'm not sure if they will respect me or not," Mr Chalerm said, adding he was not in a position to tell if Jatuporn Prompan, a red shirt co-leader who was excluded from the new cabinet lineup, would be part of any future cabinet reshuffle.

Several key red-shirt members have voiced disappointment that Mr Jatuporn was overlooked for a ministerial post in the latest reshuffle.

Some Pheu Thai MPs also expressed disappointment over the reshuffle.

Pheu Thai MP for Samut Prakan Worachai Hema, a red-shirt co-leader, previously said Mr Jatuporn had been blocked from a ministerial post by members of the ruling party.

He said Mr Jatuporn was denied a cabinet seat despite having made great contributions to the party. Others who had contributed little had been given ministerial posts, and this could lead to the government losing its support base, he added.

Mr Worachai said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra should watch out for a close aide whose first initial is "S". He said the aide would do the party more harm than good.

However, Mr Chalerm said the cabinet reshuffle would not cause divisions within the party and said there were no factions inside the ruling party.

Mr Chalerm said he believed party members could talk through their differences and that the situation would not degenerate into a negative one.

He dismissed a report that Ms Yingluck's close aide whose first initial is "S" had tried to block Mr Jatuporn from getting a ministerial post.

Pheu Thai Party director Phumtham Wechayachai said he believed nobody in the ruling party wanted to keep the red shirts out of the cabinet.

With a limited number of cabinet posts, it was normal that some people would be disappointed, as no one could have everything they wanted, Mr Phumtham said.

He added that after a party general assembly today, Pheu Thai would probably undergo major changes to its structure, with respected academics and some members of the House No.111 _ former executives of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai _ approached to sit on several of the party's committees.

Pheu Thai list-MP Cherdchai Tantisirin, another red-shirt leader, said the fact that Mr Jatuporn was kept out of the cabinet could lead to a misunderstanding between the red shirts and the government.

He said Mr Jatuporn has what it takes to be a cabinet minister but someone in the party did not want him to get a ministerial post.

Mr Cherdchai also said that several Pheu Thai MPs in the Northeast were baffled that Yutthapong Charassathien, a Pheu Thai MP for Maha Sarakham, has been appointed deputy agriculture minister despite the fact that he had only recently moved across from the Democrat Party.

Nattawut, declared assets of 68 million baht, is 1 of the new elite : Jatuporn is not. Hopefully UDD will wake up and realize how they have been used by Thaksin and how shallow his promises are.

To put near her as Deputy PM Plodprasop and Surapong , Mrs PM Yingluck is not afraid to look so much ridiculous... She has really no idea of the meaning of "good team"

Friedrich Schiller "Der Mohr hat seine Arbeit getan, der Mohr kann gehen." Jatuporn has done his work - he now can go. He united the "buffaloes" under a red cover, called for fire, became criminalized, got carried away by his sudden stardom. He helped PTP win. If ministerial posts were to be granted for such and not capabilities, (they usually are), he sure deserved a feeding place in government. Is the Family now so well in charge that they don't really need him no more?

C'mon politicos grow up. C'mon reds get real. a person with the initial S - what about a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,t,u,v,w,x,y,z. It is worthy of an elementary school taunt. "Did not": "Did so".

TS run his PT like a business organization; people with different expertise are mobilized to help lead/manage the entity during the various stages of the organization’s developments. Now that PT has sufficiently consolidated its position, the next stage is to second people with proven abilities to help manage the country to move forward. UDD leaders like Jatuporn had out-lived their usefulness, unless they are willing to be reassigned to less visible post such as personal assistance to a senior party boss. Better to keep them in sight to prevent them from turning RED (retired, extremely dangerous).

Interesting that parasites like Surapong and Chalerm who manipulated the system just as democrats like Suthep did to suit their semi criminal behavior do not understand they are in function only because the red shirt movement elected them. Jatuporn has ten times more rights to be in the cabinet than any of the ministers that are in today.

They'd better give him a job soon otherwise he might find himself behind bars!
Discussion 8 : 29/10/2012 at 10:05 AM
“Mr Jatuporn was denied a cabinet seat despite having made great contributions to the party” yes we have seen it in pictures and in real and we are not interested to see it again!
Discussion 9 : 29/10/2012 at 09:48 AM
I know what Jatuporn did at the rallies, I don't like what he did BUT he did it to help his boss in Duabai no doubt about that. But sending a guy like Chalerm to talk to the reds and Jatuporn and the reds is an insult to the reds and Jatuporn. The reds risked their life for doing what they did and the government is in power because of them. And what credentials does Chalerm come with? Jatuporn would do good to follow his own mind and not be misled by words, promises and lame excuses.

If it was possible to feel sorry for Jathuporn, I would, but it's not, so I don't.
Discussion 13 : 29/10/2012 at 09:02 AM
The UDD overestimate their value .Thaksin has them in the bag already from the election .Now he is working on the money vote .

Perhaps Jatuporn can still contribute from the sidelines? He could quote from his best-selling book: Practical and Constructive Ideas for Moving the Country Forward. Here’s the Kindle edition: Chapter One. The End.
Discussion 15 : 29/10/2012 at 08:11 AM
A word to the wise: perhaps a ‘close advisor’ whose SECOND initial is ’S' is doing more lasting damage? Something to think about.
Discussion 16 : 29/10/2012 at 07:56 AM
It is the right decision not to give Khun Jatuporn a seat - this would be a disgrace to the nation, as is the continued presence of Khun Nattawut. We should leave PT to find some other way to reward the red shirts, which no doubt they will - but cabinet posts is not the answer. BTW it is disappointing that Gen Yutthasak is out as he appeared to be the real point man for the south and seemed to have some idea what he was doing. Suppose we have to rely on the over worked Chalerm again
Discussion 17 : 29/10/2012 at 07:26 AM
Again with the infantile "a person whose initial is ..."?
Discussion 18 : 29/10/2012 at 07:26 AM
Discussion 1 has hit the nail on the head. Wait until the next Cabinet reshuffle. If Jatuporn doesn't become a Minister then, then the Red Shirts will be very upset. Thaksin may then have the Red Shirts opposing him, and that will be fun to watch!
Discussion 19 : 29/10/2012 at 07:19 AM
The issue of something for the Red's isn't a consideration for the Family Business, the main aim is to make as much profit as fast as you can for the family. The consequences will be someone elses problems to solve in repaying the debts and rebuilding the country. After all the family business can always just go back to the old family lands in the traditional home in the country to the North of Thailand, where their real loyalties are.
Discussion 20 : 29/10/2012 at 07:18 AM
Jatuporn said it himself, he made too many enemies. He is a giant symbol of political division in Thailand and if the country is ever to reconcile many people will have to step back from the lime light for the good of the country.
Discussion 21 : 29/10/2012 at 07:16 AM
"Pheu Thai MP ... said Mr Jatuporn had been blocked from a ministerial post by members of the ruling party." Chalerm says no, no, its not true and then dares to say "the cabinet reshuffle would not cause divisions within the party and said there were no factions inside the ruling party." I understand that one who talks as much as Chalerm can't always hit the nail on the head, but when Chalerm holds the hammer I prefer to be the nail rather than the plank.
Discussion 22 : 29/10/2012 at 06:38 AM
What the PM and the country need is not more cabinet reshuffles so that everybody in PTP land dips their snouts in the trough but Ministers with real experience who will work for the country and ALL the people of Thailand. End of dream, wake up to reality and a coffee.
Discussion 23 : 29/10/2012 at 04:25 AM
UDD just woke up and knew non of those were reds even if they were it was just a disguise lol
Discussion 24 : 29/10/2012 at 04:22 AM
Any ministers from Isaan????????
Discussion 25 : 29/10/2012 at 04:12 AM
Hey Chalerm, remember this "He who rides a Tiger cannot dismount"
Discussion 26 : 29/10/2012 at 04:07 AM
This is just step one in the reordering and destruction of Thailand. Mid-level facilitators are all now being shown the dagger. If and when Thaksin succeeds in eliminating his enemies, and he doesn't need the mobs anymore, he will then take the land out from under them, just like his "friend in democracy" Hun Sen has done to his own people in Cambodia - 50%+ of the country was sold off to foreign investors out from under the people living on it!
Discussion 27 : 29/10/2012 at 03:49 AM
Although Jatuporn certainly does not deserve a cabinet seat, perhaps reds will start to figure out what they've been told all along - Thaksin used you. No ifs, ors or buts about it.
