Mother's Day activities

To celebrate the National Mother's Day on Aug 12, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)'s Central Regional Office is hosting the "August: Travel With Mothers" campaign under the "Happy Family" Concept in order to stimulate tourism among families throughout August this year. It is part of its campaign to promote tourism in Green Season, aka the low season.

It recommends interesting travel activities as follows:

On Aug 12, the "Happy Family: August -- Travel With Mothers In Five Regions" caravans will be launched in front of Siam Niramitr Themed Park in Bangkok and four other venues in the North, Northeast, South and Eastern Region at 7.30am. The tour aims to attract 2,000 people. Call the TAT Call Centre 1672.

On Aug 12, the State Railway of Thailand's special steam train will run on the Bangkok-Nakhon Pathom route for a one-day tour for the general public. Call the SRT Call Centre 1690.

From Aug 1-Sept 30, the "16th Hua Hin/Cha-am Golf Festival 2017" will take place at 10 leading golf courses in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan. Call the TAT Phetchaburi Office on 032-471-005/6 and the TAT Prachuap Khiri Khan Office on 032-513-885.

Throughout August, the Agricultural Occupation Promotion and Development Centre in U Thong district, Suphan Buri province, is open to the public to visit its Siam tulip plantation where 15 strains of krajiao, a type of curcumin plant, are in full bloom this time of the year. Visitors can also buy various kinds of flowers and plants. Admission is free. Call the centre on 035-437-704/5.

From Aug 7-9, the public and private sectors of Samut Songkhram will host the annual Khao Yai pomelo festival in front of the provincial hall from 9am-7pm. The Khao Yai (big and white) strain of pomelo is an economic crop of Samut Songkhram. It is seedless while its flesh is the colour of honey and tastes sweet and sour.

At the fair, visitors can taste and buy fresh pomelos from 65 orchards and shops at low prices, buy local handicrafts and products from the province's three districts and watch pomelo contests.

Visitors can also visit fruit orchards, and local temples and markets, such as Talat Rom Hoop and Amphawa Floating Market. Call the TAT local office on 034-752-847/8.

On Aug 13, the "Rubber Boat Race For Conservation Of The Phetchaburi River" will take place in the afternoon. The meeting point is the Kaeng Krachan National Park's recreation centre in Kaeng Krachan district. Each rubber boat is capable of accommodating six to eight people. Pork and soccer in Buri Ram

From July 29-30, the "Eating Pork Legs, Watching Soccer And Sleep In Buri Ram" festival will take place at Lively Buri Ram Market in Muang district, Buri Ram.

The event will feature over 50 booths selling pork legs, an exhibition on this famed local dish, a pork leg cooking and eating and fusion food cooking competition, Miss Healthy Buri Ram 2017 Contest, music and other activities.

A highlight is the sale of two travel packages by a local tourism association for people to visit Buri Ram, eat pork legs and watch Isan derby soccer matches at the prices of 2,950 baht per person and 1,650 baht per person.
