MANILA - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Sunday that his militarily inferior country can't stop China's actions in contested waters, responding to a reported plan by Beijing to construct an environmental monitoring station in a shoal claimed by Manila off the northwestern Philippines.
Duterte made the statement at a press conference in the southern Philippine city of Davao before leaving on an official trip to Thailand and Myanmar.
He is due to arrive in Bangkok on Monday afternoon for a three-day visit before proceeding to Myanmar on Wednesday.
